Meet the Author
Lavay Byrd was born and raised with four siblings in Germany in August 15, 1991 until her family moved back to the United States in 2008. For as long as she can remember, Lavay has always had a love for horses, yet cherishes an even stronger relationship as “a Daughter of Jesus Christ”, which all began when she was only five years old.
As a child, Lavay not only held an ever-present love for horses, but also loved to create stories, especially when she would re-tell some of her favorite Bible stories through illustrations and share them with her family. As time passed, her God-given gift of story-telling blossomed as she went on to compose her own stories, often featuring horses or "horse-like" characters that would "pop-up" in her imagination. It was not until the year 2010 that a 9th-grade English extra-credit project led to the creation of her debut book ever to be published: The Miraculous Birth, the first of her children's fantasy series "Light Horse Dark Horse".
Today, Lavay lives in the country outskirts of Tyrone, Georgia with two sibling cats, Leo and Lilly. She currently works as a teacher assistant but plans to pursue a more invigorating career in equine therapy. Besides writing, she enjoys Western horseback riding, chocolate, cowgirl boots, walks around nature, movies with horses, adventures, and battles of good and evil, and, of course, reading other inspirational/Christian/clean fantasy/speculative fiction. Works by Jill Williamson, Jaye L. Knight, R.J Larson, and Patrick W. Carr are among her top favorites and inspiration. She is even holding on to her life-long dream that God will one day bless her with her very own horse.
