Seventeen-year-old Rosalee Quinn has always dreamed of soaring the Usonian skies on a winged skyhorse of her own. Yet, with her crippled legs, such a dream lies far beyond her reach. Until she stumbles upon a wild, winged filly— a windhorse—, abandoned by her herd. A single touch sparks an impossible bond, awakening abilities long passed into myth.

Eager to test their newfound strengths, Rosalee and her filly, Windflower, enter the national Sky Race, a grueling cross-country competition where sky-riders vie for a chance to become legends. But when faced with bitter rivals, deadly storms, and savage sky-beasts, Rosalee is certain she is in over her head. Will she and Windflower keep flying…  even at the risk of their lives?
